Remembering Peterloo

The 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre will be commemorated in 2019. On 16 March 1819, fifteen people were killed and over 650 injured at a peaceful demonstration calling for electoral reform.

As this anniversary draws closer work continues to raise awareness of what happened that day, and remember those who died. This week saw the release of an early still from Mike Leigh's forthcoming film, Peterloo. And a dedicated project from Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society [MLFHS] is seeking descendants of anyone present on the day in order to record these stories.

This wonderful animation, produced by Ocean Cad in collaboration with Dr Robert Poole, draws on historical accounts to recreate the sequence of events in St Peter's Field.
